If you still have a soft spot for goo ‘ol Yahoo! then you’re in for a surprise, the struggling search company is set to unveil a new logo next month to usher in a new era of Yahoo! The new logo will incorporate the new brand that has seen a lot of restructuring and loads of acquisitions since Marissa Mayer took over last year.
The new Yahoo logo will apparently still feature the same old purple hues and the exclamation mark at the end, but will serve as a new identity for the company that has faced a lot of competition from Google and Microsoft’s Bing. The company has shut down a lot of its services, added a bunch of new ones and notably redesigned quite a few, keeping Flickr in mind. Let’s not forget their acquisitions in the last year, including the recent Rockmelt purchase and most importantly Tumblr, all of which apparently to get new talent into the company as they try to take back the markets they were once popular in.
Yahoo will apparently show off a different version of their current logo each day on a selection of their sites and services, with the new version finally being unveiled on September 5th, when the whole world’s eyes are on Samsung and other company’s new offerings.
Yahoo today announced their plans to shut down a dozen of their services, luckily for its users, some of the services will be replaced, although those that won’t be, will have to seek alternatives.
Yahoo has been on a seemingly record-breaking buying spree as of late, earlier this week they snapped up popular micro blogging site Tumblr, now they’re rumoured to be interested in acquiring popular pay-TV provider, Hulu, for an undisclosed amount of money.
Mostly overshadowed by the announcement that they have acquired Tumblr for a cool $1.1 billion, Yahoo’s product event yesterday revealed the new Flickr; with an photo focussed UI and a whopping 1TB of free storage for every user.
After having its board vote on the matter yesterday, Yahoo officially announced today that the planned $1.1 billion acquisition of micro blogging site Tumblr is to go ahead.
Rumours are heating up as Yahoo! has scheduled a product related event for Monday afternoon, speculation has lead to suggestions that they will announce a Tumblr acquisition among other things.
