Rumours that Sony’s upcoming Honami smartphone packed with a delightful 20.7MP camera may pack 4K video recording, may very well be true if the latest leaks are to be believed. The slide above comes from a presentation by Sony, but the original source has since removed their posts on Weibo, so not much is known about it anymore.
The slides show off the upcoming Sony Honami smartphone with some clear specifications that have leaked before such as the 20.7MP camera as well as a 2.2MP front facing camera. The slide has one tagline saying “How do you get 4K content? By shooting videos with a 4K cellphone.” which makes it all pretty clear. Unlike Sony’s current Ultra HD TVs, the Honami’s 4K video recording capabilities indicate that it will shoot video at 4,000 x 2,000 resolution with a strange aspect ratio. The Honami is rumoured to pack a Snapdragon 800 SoC which has more than enough processing power to accomplish the task at hand.
If rumours pan out, Sony may have a pretty good competitor to Samsung’s chunky Galaxy S4 Zoom and Nokia’s Lumia 1020 featuring Windows Phone 8.
It’s no secret that Sony is working on a new camera centric smartphone of their own, one that will not only take on the Nokia Lumia PureView devices, but also rule the Android camera phone market.
In a new teaser image that leaked out today, a glimpse of the upcoming Sony Honami is shown, with a purple hue, which may very well indicate that a wide variety of colours can be expected, or just that a purple variant will be available just like with the Sony Xperia Z. The Sony Honami, obviously an internal codename, will apparently pack a 5-inch full HD display, a 2.2GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, and most importantly feature an enhanced 20.7MP camera.
Like most Sony devices nowadays, it will be protected from dust, water and other damage through its IP57 certification. The Sony Honami is expected to launch at an official launch even at IFA 2013 in Berlin on September 4.
With Samsung announcing everything, but the upcoming Galaxy Note III, Sony has taken advantage of the gap in the ‘phablet’ market by launching the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, one of the most promising ‘phablets’ to hit the market this year.
Rumours have been floating around for a while now that Sony is planning a larger version of their popular Xperia Z smart phone that will be set to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note III. Well, today we not only get a glimpse into what we will be seeing, but also when we will be seeing it.
The Sony Xperia L promises to bring a high end camera to the low end market and until now information on the device reaching US shores has remained rather vague, but a recent FCC filing seems to confirm that the device is coming soon.
