Several months ago, we reported that YouTube founders, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, were working on a new social video service called MixBit, which they were more than happy to tease.
Over the months, MixBit has gotten lost in our distant memories, but today it’s back and it looks quite appealing. MixBit has been launched officially in the form of an iOS application that records a 16 second video clip, with a twist. Unlike Vine and Instagram Video, MixBit allows you to edit and remix videos, making clips of up to an hour long. Videos are submitted anonymously and no comments are available making trolls all the more less and remixing so much better.
MixBit is backed by Google Ventures and Chen & Hurley have promised an Android version will become available in the Google Play store in the coming weeks.
So, the rumours proved correct, Facebook today officially announced Video for Instagram, now available on Android and iOS. Just like the rumours were going on and on about this week, Instagram has in fact received a new feature allowing users to share short video clips.
Facebook’s announcement of that they will be unveiling a “big idea” this Thursday has brought along a lot of speculation as to what big blue has planned for us, some have suggested that they will be unveiling a Google Reader replacement while today news has started spreading, supposedly from insiders, that the company is bringing video sharing to Instagram, making it more competitive with Twitter’s more popular Vine.
YouTube co-founder, Chris Hurley, today teased a new social video sharing site called MixBit after announcing last month that he would be launching a new video sharing site in the near future.
