This new OTA update reaching the Z1 Compact doesn’t bring anything new to the table either. Xperia Z1 Compact’s Android 4.4.4 firmware comes under the build number of 14.4.A.0.108. The same build is certified for the Z1 and Z Ultra so even those devices should be getting the update very soon.
Theories about 2014 being the year of the 4K, year of the megapixel war, year of IP certifications, year of the wearable tech, let’s check what is this Sony Morpheus that stands in the later-most category.
Sony on Tuesday announced a new virtual reality technology codenamed Project Morpheus. A VR headset for the PlayStation 4. Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said, “The industry has grown by creating technological advancements for video game players. Advancements that people maybe weren’t expecting or thought was possible.” PlayStation, he said, is focused on “pushing the boundary of play,” and “it’s this focus that drives how we innovate and create the experiences we deliver to gamers.”
Sony said it will keep experimenting with feedback it gets from developers who will use the units to make engaging games for their Playstation platform. While the major value proposition of the Sony Morpheus is how you will use it – plug it into your Playstation gaming console compared to a powerful PC as a requirement for Oculus Rift is the major plus Sony is replying upon.
Are you gamers waiting for gaming gear to head into the wearable space?!
The Sony Xperia Z1 was announced during the MWC 2014 and therefore it is the company’s flagship for the year of 2014. The spec sheet shows a very subtle bump with an upgrade in terms of processor, screen size and RAM.
The camera and optics used are said to be the same, however, the Z2 that has a 20.7-megapixel backside illuminated 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor just like the Z1, appears to reveal pronounced improvements in the Z2′s image quality. Noise levels seem substantially reduced, and the images are overall more crisp and detailed.
So does this mean a software update can improve the Z1’s image quality? We’re definitely optimistic about it!
The Xperia Z2 had received, by far, the best leaked treatment of a total of 12 minutes in a video that we had reposted here. Today, at MWC 2014. A first look at the device might not suggest a major revamp, but it is rocking quite some neat upgrades internally.
From whatever we know, the specifics are as follows :
- 5.2-inch Full HD Live Color LED display (1920 x 1080) with TRILUMINOS and X-Reality technology
- 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU
- 3GB of RAM
- 20.7MP 1/2.3-type EXMOR RS CMOS with G Lens, CMOS image, BIONZ for mobile
- 4K video capture (3840×2160 pixels/30p) with SteadyShot image stabiliization
- Digital noise-cancelling technology for an immersive audio experience
- 3200 mAh battery
- IP55/IP58 rating – waterproof and dustproof
- 4G LTE support
- Android 4.4 KitKat with Sony features on top
Yes 4K recording and an improved LIVE LED display top them all, following a better Snapdragon 801. The camera seems to be using the same optics as the Xperia Z1.
We have to agree this is by far one of the most cleanest leaks we have seen in a while and we highly doubt Sony’s privacy control systems after this, also makes us think if they really so easy let a device slip into someones hands who recorded a whole 12 min video and uploaded to YouTube
To run you by through the presumed specs of the Sirius/Xperia Z2 – it include a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a MSM8974AB SoC (Snapdragon 800) processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 21MP camera. It is rumoured to launch this MWC in Sony’s event.
If you remember the Z1 correctly, then you maybe knowing that Timeshift Burst was one of it’s main selling points. the mode allows you to capture 61 frames within two seconds, with initial frames being capture even before pressing the shutter.
Just lik Motorola released it’s camera app in the Play store post the negative reviews of the Cameras processing and quality, Sony has done something similar. Sony Xperia Z and the Z Ultra users were able to successfully install this app. if you have a compatible device you can give it a shot.
What we know is that this phone has smaller bezels and that means a bigger screen. The leakster has comfirmed a 5.25 inch screen. Also, judging by the button placements and flaps this seems to be a water resistant device just like Xperia Z1.
While Sony does not have market share in terms of it’s Android smartphones, it has taken over more than 50% of the camera market in terms of image sensors for digital imaging. The Z1 or the Z1S(in the U.S.A) comes with a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS Sensor that maxes out at 20 MP.
Take a look at the video :
What’s unique about this Z1 model is that it boasts high end specs even though the form factor is small. Chinese publication cnBeta says the phone will be unveiled during the Chinese New Year Festival, will come in four colors and will cost 4099 Yuan, or around $675. What a hefty price tag for a non flagship device!
