The Nokia Lumia 1020 has barely gone on sale in the US and Amazon has already started offering discounts on the Finns’ first Windows Phone device that features the company’s industry leading 41MP camera sensor.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 first launched on AT&T a few weeks ago with a hefty $299 price tag, when signing a two-year contract that is. Amazon, who have offered plenty discounts on devices before, none this early after a launch though, has discounted the Nokia Lumia 1020 by $50, making it $249, upon signing a two-year contract with AT&T of course. Buyers are offered all the officially available colour options which is yellow, black and white.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has started going on sale in select markets already with the UK possibly joining in on the fun in September according to O2.

Yahoo! to announce new logo next month, to tease it everyday until then

without comments

If you still have a soft spot for goo ‘ol Yahoo! then you’re in for a surprise, the struggling search company is set to unveil a new logo next month to usher in a new era of Yahoo! The new logo will incorporate the new brand that has seen a lot of restructuring and loads of acquisitions since Marissa Mayer took over last year.

The new Yahoo logo will apparently still feature the same old purple hues and the exclamation mark at the end, but will serve as a new identity for the company that has faced a lot of competition from Google and Microsoft’s Bing. The company has shut down a lot of its services, added a bunch of new ones and notably redesigned quite a few, keeping Flickr in mind. Let’s not forget their acquisitions in the last year, including the recent Rockmelt purchase and most importantly Tumblr, all of which apparently to get new talent into the company as they try to take back the markets they were once popular in.

Yahoo will apparently show off a different version of their current logo each day on a selection of their sites and services, with the new version finally being unveiled on September 5th, when the whole world’s eyes are on Samsung and other company’s new offerings.

Microsoft to change SkyDrive name after losing trademark dispute with BSkyB

without comments

skydrive

Remember a while ago when Microsoft lost a trademark dispute over its naming of the Metro UI? Well, call it Deja Vu, but they’ve done it again. The company’s popular cloud storage platform, SkyDrive, will see its name being changed in the near future after losing a trademark dispute with British Sky Broadcasting over the SkyDrive name.

A court has ruled in favour of BSkyB over a trademark dispute with Microsoft over the Redmond giant’s use of the SkyDrive name for their popular cloud storage platform. Microsoft has been granted an undisclosed period of time after which they will have to change the SkyDrive name to something else in order to not infringe on BSkyB’s trademark. The internet has gone in a new naming frenzy with a popular name on The Verge being ‘BallmerDrive’ which obviously takes a stab at Microsoft’s CEO, but more likely suggestions include Bing Drive and XBox Drive, but of course in the end it will be up to Redmond’s top brass to make the final call.

It remains to be seen what the new name will be as well as how smooth a transition it will be from SkyDrive. Of course there is going to be a few confused souls running around. Sadly, Microsoft has no immediate plans to appeal the judgement, so change is imminent.

Windows Phone users cry out as Instagram deletes photos uploaded by unofficial applications

without comments

instagram

After months and months of constant bickering by Windows Phone users, and the use of a magnitude of different unofficial Instagram clients such as Instance and Hipstamatic’s Oggl, Instagram has started striking back at users who make use of unofficial Instagram clients by deleting such users’ uploads.

The move, albeit to combat spam uploads, has resulted in an outcry by Windows Phone users who have been crying for several months, begging the company to release a Windows Phone application. Nokia has even had a campaign in which they tried to bully Instagram into creating an official Instagram for Windows Phone application through #2InstaWithLove which failed miserably. Instagram has started deleted uploads by users that use unofficial Instagram clients, of which several are Windows Phone applications such as the popular Instance. Instagram officially noted that the deletions were caused by a change in their APIs that have been made to combat spam uploads on the service, all unofficial offerings seems to have been affected.

Instance’s creator, Daniel Gary, has taken to Twitter to calm disgruntled users down and promising a fix soon with the possibility of refunds being offered to users who purchased the application for their devices. Best to get an iPhone or Android device then, hey?
