Roughly 18 months after launching BBM Music, BlackBerry is killing off the social music service and referring users to one of their competitors. From June the company will no longer allow users their 50 song playlist to share with friends over the company’s BBM instant messaging service.
BlackBerry today released their sales figures from the first quarter of the year and although it’s still not up to scratch, it surely is a step in the right direction.
Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chairman and former CEO, has outed his love for BlackBerry smart phones, in particular the hardware keyboards that they’re famous for, in an interview with Britain’s The Guardian.
BlackBerry has always been known for their keyboard-clad devices and when whispers of BlackBerry 10, then rumoured as BBX, first emerged, the question on everyone’s minds was whether or not there would be a device with a keyboard in the line-up. When BlackBerry 10 was announced, the BlackBerry Z10 was everywhere to be seen and the BlackBerry Q10 remained in the shadows, no pricing and no availability was given, but that is about to change.
Ever since BlackBerry launched BlackBerry 10, users have been eagerly awaiting the WhatsApp cross-platform messaging app. Last year WhatsApp made it clear that they had no plans for a BlackBerry 10 app, but BlackBerry was quick to convince them otherwise, and now, nearly two months after launch, users are finally getting a taste for WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10.
BlackBerry did the impossible, despite losing most of their value and market share, they held on long enough to launch a comeback, but all may not be well in Waterloo, recent price cuts in Europe have suggested that sales are sluggish and demand is weak, a takeover may just be imminent.
BlackBerry’s first BlackBerry 10 smart phone, the BlackBerry Z10, has taken its sweet time to arrive on US shores, but according to anonymous sources inside AT&T, the device is set to go on sale starting March 22 from the US’ largest carrier.
