Chinese couple sold their daughter for an iPhone and some shoes

without comments

iphone5s-5c

Some people sell some vital organs for the latest iDevices, others, however, sell their children. Chinese media are reporting that a Shanghai couple sold their daughter, the latest of three children, and spent the proceeds on some lavish products.

Yes, the Shanghai couple sold their daughter for an iPhone. They advertised their daughter online for between $4,000 and $5,000 in order for her to get adopted. They stated that they wanted the child to have a better life than their current two children are having. They got arrested for illegal human trafficking after purchasing an Apple iPhone, some high end sports shoes and more lavish products. Of course they opted to get a new iPhone instead of using the money to improve their and their children’s lives.

When last did you hear about someone selling their kidney or child for a Samsung? Never? Oh…

‘Wolverine’ becomes Micromax brand ambassador

without comments

It seems HTC isn’t the only one hiring a superhero as a brand ambassador after Micromax today showed off Hugh Jackman, known for his role as the Wolverine in several Marvel movies, teasing their new Micromax Canvas Turbo smartphone, which is expected it be quite the hit.

The new Micromax Canvas Turbo is expected to be the company’s first full HD screened smartphone, with a highly attractive price tag. The Canvas Turbo is expected to feature loads of new software enhancements in addition to a 1080p display as well as a quad-core 1.2GHz MT6589 processor. If Micromax successfully pulls off the new Canvas Turbo, we’re likely to finally see a ‘Wolverine’ vs ‘Iron Man’ showdown, something that I am more than certain every single one of us would love to see.

Amzer has a great line of Micromax device accessories, especially Micromax Canvas 4 accessories, some of which can be seen blow! :)

No TouchID sensor for the next iPad Mini :(

without comments

ipad mini 2 touchid

With just four days to go before its official launch, the Apple iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 have leaked. The iPad 5 has been confirmed to feature the new TouchID fingerprint sensor, while the iPad Mini 2 will not feature a TouchID sensor.

The Apple iPad Mini 2 was thus far assumed to join the iPhone 5s and iPad 5′s fingerprint sensor bandwagon, but according to new leaked images from CTechCN shows that it will not be doing so, presumably to keep the iPad Mini 2′s costs low, especially considering that the introduction of its new Retina display will push up manufacturing costs. Outside, the iPad Mini 2 is expected to stay pretty much the same as its predecessor, but the inside is expected to change quite a bit with the introduction of a 64-bit A7 SoC and an enlarged battery.

The iPad Mini 2 is expected to outsell the larger iPads this year as the push for smaller tablets continues and the new Retina display pushes the tablet into new frontiers.

Lenovo aims to take on the iPad Mini with their new $299 Windows 8.1 powered, 8-inch Miix 2

without comments

lenovo-miix-2619wide-1381930816

A year ago you would most likely never have guessed that 8-inch tablets would be as popular as they currently are. No one wants the iPad 4 anymore, it’s too big, the Nexus 7 is too small. Android tablet applications suck and the iPad Mini doesn’t allow you to download torrents. So, Lenovo has solved your predicament for you with the new Lenovo Miix 2 tablet.

The new Lenovo Miix 2 may be the company’s best tablet to date. The Miix 2 packs a quad core Intel Bay Trail Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 128GB of SSD storage, an 8-inch WXGA touch display, a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and you can get a funky flip cover and stylus for this baby. So, can it take on the best Android and Apple has to offer? Maybe, with its $299 price tag, it is sure to make some heads turn, and give the current run of Windows RT powered tablets the final nail in their coffins. Who know why you’d want a Windows tablet, but if you think you’re too good for Android, don’t like iOS and want a tablet, here you go.

Thus far Windows powered tablets have failed miserably. Microsoft had a massive stock writeoff. Most of their partners killed their Windows RT offerings. The Lenovo Miix 2 offers a Windows powered tablets at an afforable pricetag, and that is dope..

Oh look, a Nokia smartwatch that Microsoft is likely to kill!

without comments

So, of course Nokia would be working on a smartwatch of their own. They have had smart necklaces, armbands, pretty much everything, and of course everyone else is doing it. Now we get to see a working prototype, which looks quite interesting.

Dr Kent Lyons, who worked on developing the Nokia smartwatch concept above, codenamed Nokia ‘Facet’, sent Engadget a video of the smartwatch in action, and it looks quite interesting to say the least. The device uses 6 different facets, basically it has six screens that can be removed to work on their own, attached to the dedicated armband to use as a weird smartwatch or whatever you wish to do with it, it seems. Each screen can run a different application or task, so theoretically you could browse tweets, while making an appointment on your calendar and sending a quick email while replying to a text.

Of course if it ever makes it to the open market, which is highly unlikely to happen, it would cost pretty much the same as or more than a Samsung Galaxy Gear. So, the choice is simple, buy a Pebble…

Twitter allows all your pesky stalkers to Direct Message you, without you following them

without comments

twit

Wouldn’t you just love it if anyone using Twitter could send you a direct message, whether you follow them or not? It was a rhetorical question, of course you would not like that, imagine getting a million spam messages per day. Point proven.

Twitter has started experimenting with a new feature that will allow users to allow anyone using Twitter to send them Direct Messages, whether they follow said person or not. Now of course it would lighten everyone’s timelines from brands constantly interacting with every single human being alive trying to solve their queries and adding a fullstop, a greeting or anything else before the persons handle. Now let’s look at the cons. Paedophiles get easy access to kids using Twitter. Spammers can harass loads of people that would otherwise have been pretty difficult to do. All of your exes or stalkers can now constantly send you messages, making your phone sing with notifications just as you were about to dose off.

So. Yes, the feature has to be enabled by the user first, but I would not recommend it, I already get enough DM spam, from everyone I follow, now imaging if all of the 200,000,000+ Twitter users could message you…

Could an Amazon partnership be what saves HTC?

without comments

Amazon-smartphone

Can Amazon save HTC without buying them? The ailing Taiwanese manufacturer is currently valued at $3.8 billion, losing its worth day by day, and even more of its market share. A Lenovo acquisition is rumoured heavily. Now, an alliance with online retail giant is signalling a turnaround for HTC.

According to a report by The Financial Times, Amazon and HTC are in the process of making three different Amazon smartphones, one of which is already in advanced stages of production and is likely to appear early next year. The HTC One was lauded as the year’s best Android smartphone, winning awards, selling mediocrely, but can Amazon boost the company’s struggling image and make them valuable, and more importantly more profitable again? HTC’s three Facebook phones have failed miserably, as has their Windows Phone devices, their tablets and now most of their smartphones too. Amazon is offering an exclusive device that will surely sell in the several millions across the globe.

Amazon may very well save HTC with an alliance, or they will end up buying the firm and taking full advantage of the firm and all of its assets.

LG takes a nab at the iPhone 5s, HTC One and Galaxy S4 in new Scandinavian ad campaign

without comments

lg takes nab at apple htc samsung

LG has always been lurking around in the background, trying to steal the spotlight from an unsuspecting competitor, such as their Time Square ad stating “LG Optimus G is here 4 you now” right next to Samsung’s ad teasing the Galaxy S4 launch, happening below the ad just days later. Now they have a new one.

No, it isn’t another meteor video on their new OLED TV screens. This time LG has decided to target users of competitors’ devices directly with targetted mobile ads in Scandinavia. If users using an iPhone access a site with the ad embedded, they are met with a screen stating “Hard to read this on your iPhone? Get the LG G2 with a 5.2″ FHD IPS Display”. They do something similar with HTC One and Galaxy S4 users stating “Tired of charging your HTC One? Get the LG G2 with 30% longer battery life” for the former and “Waiting for your Galaxy to catch up? Get the LG G2 with 20% faster processor” for the latter, both valid points and shown in a clever way.

Does LG have what it takes to become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world or better? Do you think they have some pizzaz? They were met with a huge outcry from global BlackBerry users today after trying to poke fun at the ailing smartphone maker.
