Sundar Pichai took over stage at Google I/O and one of the first announcements he made was Android One – A Design reference platform so that all low end hardware for developing countries has a unified standard approach.
So recently mid-range and low-range smartphones have taken over by storm in developing countries in Asia and Brazil. This obviously has caught Google’s attention. Android One will be a platform where Google takes the burden to unify the experience across these devices and keep it updated and stock like.
Companies like Micromax, Spice and Karbon which are famous Indian manufacturers are partners for this programme and Pichai says that he sees tremendous potential in this. All these devices will have will have a 4.5-inch screen, dual sim functionality, microSD card support and FM radio priced under $100. Are you excited for such devices?
