Next version of Android to be called ‘KitKat’ not Key Lime Pie, may launch in October

Just when you thought Microsoft’s Nokia acquisition or Apple’s confirmation of their September event stole the spotlight today, think again. Google has taken a stab at the headlines of the world today by officially teasing and announcing the next version of the Android operating system in conjunction with Nestle; Android 4.4 KitKat.

Don’t break out in laughter just yet. Google decided late last year to opt the KitKat way instead of going Key Lime Pie, which they reckon not many people have tasted before. Nestle, the KitKat manufacturer however decided to opt to add the Android mascot onto their upcoming KitKat products’ wrappers, giving Google some great advertising in 19 different markets. Additionally Google is expected to launch the next iteration sometime next month alongside this year’s Nexus smartphone offering which has been rumoured to carry the LG logo once again.

Who made your day today? Was it Apple? Was it Google? Or was it Microsoft? Leave your comment after the break, with pun obviously intended!
