Turns out that a $900 million inventory write off just isn’t enough to deter Microsoft from making a tablet of their own. The company, that’s most definitely going to chew the short end of the post-PC-era-straw, has sent out invitations to a Surface event later this month.
On September 23, my birthday, Microsoft is set to host a Surface-related event, one which is more than likely going to showcase the company’s second generation Surface tablets, something that’s more than likely going to be much more of a failure than its predecessors. Redmond is expected to launch a new Surface RT with a rumored 1080p display, a Tegra 4 SoC and some other juicy tidbits, but the software will be the make or break. Windows RT and Windows Phone is rumored to merge soon, giving WinRT the much needed applications it would need to survive.
What do you think? Does Microsoft have what it takes to light a fire under the likes of Apple and Google or is it just another failure in the making?
