Canonical’s next brainchild, the Ubuntu Linux powered Ubuntu Edge smartphone, has seen quite a response through its Indiegogo campaign, but with only two weeks to go they have a long way to go before their funding goal is reached.
The Ubuntu Edge campaign has seen a remarkable response from not only the general public, but as of recently big corporations too after Bloomberg LP made a $80,000 contribution for 115 unique Edge devices as well as training, among other things. Today, Canonical announced that they would be slashing the Ubuntu Edge’s price to $695 for the remainder of the campaign, down from $775.
The move is widely being considered a step to gain more funding, as over $23 million is still needed within the next 14 days for the Edge to succeed. Canonical, however, says that lower manufacturing costs are to thank.
