BlackBerry today announced the new BlackBerry 9720, although the device should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed the countless amount of leaks over the last few months. The BlackBerry 9720 will be an entry level smartphone running the now dated BlackBerry OS 7.1.
BlackBerry is struggling, big time, there is no denying that, but their latest smartphone may very well be one of their best to date, considering BlackBerry’s strength in the lower end smartphone market. The new BlackBerry 9720 is basically a Curve device and comes with a 2.8-inch HVGA touch display, an 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera and a 1,450mAh battery. The BlackBerry 9720 features the latest BlackBerry OS 7.1 with some UI enhancements that will allow users to swipe the screen to unlock it and access the camera straight from the lockscreen. Included is a dedicated BBM key which should give avid texters quick access to the application.
The BlackBerry 9720 is set to go on sale over the next few weeks in key markets in Europe, Asia and Africa in five unique colours, although exact pricing hasn’t been confirmed.
