Yahoo today announced their plans to shut down a dozen of their services, luckily for its users, some of the services will be replaced, although those that won’t be, will have to seek alternatives.

Axis, Browser Plus and Citizen Sport were the beginning and were killed today. Citizen Sport will be replaced by Yahoo! Sports. June 30 is Yahoo! Web Player’s turn with no replacement planned. July 1 is FoxyTunes and RSS Alerts’ turns, being replaced by Yahoo! Music and Yahoo! Alerts. On July 8 AltaVista and Yahoo! Neighbours Beta will get the boot with Yahoo! Search and Local Search taking over from there. Finally on September 28 is the Local API and Term Extraction API’s turns.

Yahoo has been amping up it internal structure as of late under the Mayer administration and a lot more changes are expected to ensue in the coming months.
