Rumours have been floating around for a while now that Sony is planning a larger version of their popular Xperia Z smart phone that will be set to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note III. Well, today we not only get a glimpse into what we will be seeing, but also when we will be seeing it.

The Sony Xperia ZU, with the ‘U’ standing for ultra, is set to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note III later this year when the device is expected to launch in the ‘phablet’ sector. Sony France has sent out some invitations to the press for an event that is set to take place on July 4 and the invite states that “Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you,“ with a “Do not forget to mark your calendars!” being written using a stylus. The Xperia ZU is expected to feature a 6.44-inch 1080p touch display, a 2.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and an 8MP rear facing camera.
What’s even more noteworthy is that the Xperia ZU will supposedly be just 6.5mm thick and be water resistance, so remember to save the date!
