Windows Phone has been growing slowly, but steadily with it having reached a new benchmark today, over 145,000 applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace, up 25,000 from the 120,000 reported in October last year.

Windows Phone seems to finally start to catch on with number slowly growing everywhere, mostly thanks to Nokia. At 145,000 applications, Windows Phone is only a tad larger than BlackBerry 10 which has only been on the market for four months, versus Windows Phone’s four years. The number of applications are growing slowly despite Microsoft’s best efforts to push developers and new adopters alike to join the platform. Nokia has even taken to cyber ‘bullying’ in an effort to get Facebook’s Instagram to develop a client for Windows Phone, which thus far has failed.
Windows Phone has an edge, but it remains to be seen if it will be able to compete with the newer alternatives gunning for the fabled third ecosystem hotspot such as BlackBerry 10, Firefox OS and Jolla’s Sailfish.
