With all the recent rumours flying around regarding Apple’s supposed iWatch, a smart watch that is said to be a ‘second screen’ for current iDevices, eyes have turned to Samsung and other manufacturers to see if they would follow suit. Several weeks ago screenshots leaked of a supposed Samsung smart watch called the Samsung Galaxy Altius, not much info was provided on it though, but today new information emerged.

Samsung’s Executive Vice President for mobile, Lee Young Hee, has revealed that Samsung has been working on a smart watch for a while know, after he let slip last week that Samsung’s first Tizen device would launch between August and September. Young Hee told Bloomberg that Samsung has “been preparing the watch product for so long,” adding “we are working very hard to get ready for it.” “We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them,” he said, “The issue here is who will first commercialize it so consumers can use it meaningfully.”
Although confirming the existence of a Samsung-made smart watch, Young Hee did not elaborate on any specific plans or release dates for such a device and considering how Samsung lead the ‘phablet’ revolution, it would come as no surprise if they were to release a smart watch before Apple does.
