Just a few weeks after some continuous rumours that Lenovo showed interest in buying troubled smart phone manufacturer, BlackBerry, new rumours have emerged stating that they may purchase NEC Mobiling; a joint venture between NEC and Casio to manufacture smart phones.
BlackBerry is back, don’t forget to take a look at Amzer’s wide variety of BlackBerry Z10 accessories.
The dust has barely settled from rumours that Lenovo is eyeing a acquisition of BlackBerry to strengthen its mobile arm, now it seems they have moved on as new rumours indicate that they may be interested in buying NEC Mobiling for as much as $850 million, significantly less than a BlackBerry acquisition may have costed. NEC Mobiling is a joint venture between NEC and Casio to produce smart phones of which NEC has a 70% stake.
NEC is said to want to rid itself of the struggling smart phone division after two years of losses and over 10,000 layoffs. If the rumours are true, Lenovo may get their hands on a company that once made some of the most intriguing devices such as Casio’s line of rugged smart phones as well as the Medias W; a dual screened Android smart phone. Like with all rumours, take it with a pinch of salt.
